Make a Rushnyk (Embroidered Ceremonial Towel)

  • St. Vladimir Institute 620 Spadina Avenue Toronto, ON, M5S 2H4 Canada (map)

Rushnyky are woven or embroidered towels with a ceremonial and decorative purpose in Eastern European cultures. Learn much more about rushnyky and design your own from start to finish as part of this course.

A rushnyk is a wonderful project, as it requires no advanced finishing (though we can work on some fancy hemming and edging), and is symmetrical, so you only have to plan one design and then duplicate it to cover quite a large area. And... is something you'll use in Ukrainian tradition, or can bestow as a meaningful wedding/engagement/baby shower gift :)
